Are there any plans for Specific Recordings in the future? OLDCODEX () is a japanese rock band that was formed in 2009 by Suzuki Tatsuhisa who also goes by the name of Ta2.He was invited by his label, GloryHeaven, to form a band, and later on he formed OLDCODEX along with RON. Specific: We’d say it goes from Renewal (by Kreator) to Isolation (by Kali Uchis) for Flo, and from Hounds of Love (by Kate Bush) to anything by The Strokes for Jennie.ĩ. Apart from titles from your artists, what are some of your all-time favourite records? Our first soul record ( The Adelians), co-released with our friends from Q-Sound, also sold pretty well (we actually did 3 different pressings).Ĩ. Her music is amazing and we’re so happy that so many people are discovering and connecting with her. She’s a one-of-a-kind artist from Tokyo that blends plenty of musical forward-thinking ideas with raw & honest emotions. We feel very lucky to be a part of her life. Specific: Our best-selling record has been Haru To Shura by Haru Nemuri.

What are some of the bestselling titles by Specific Recordings? We want to bring this great music that is not really destined to be shared outside of Japan with the whole wide world.ħ.

It’s a whole different story than working with French or English-speaking bands, sometimes it’s tougher but it’s also very rewarding. Our first japanese release sold out almost instantly and we got to pursue fruitful collaborations through other releases with Avex ( Tokyo Karan Koron, Charan Po Rantan, Seiko Oomori) as well as other labels (Passepied with Warner Music Japan, Charisma.Com with Lastrum) and artists ( Suiyôbi No Campanella, Necronomidol, Haru Nemuri, and lately Sari). He then connected us to some great people at Avex (very big Japanese label), and the rest is history. Then, through our friend, Yves Botz (who plays guitar in Mesa Of The Lost Women), we got to know Jojo Hiroshige (from Hijokaidan) and asked him if we could release the first album by BisKaidan, his crazy project with the anti-idol band BiS.

After putting the first record out a year after the trip, it was obvious at some point that we would try to connect and work with some Japanese bands although we didn’t really know how it would turn out. Specific: We went to Tokyo for the first time in 2010, after dreaming about it for a very long time and that really changed our lives. There seems to be quite a number of Japanese artistes on your roster, is there a story on why this is so?
